Where a national procedure requires a local representative, we work through our international network. We tell you who is involved and share the invoices they issue to us.
Each invoice separates our service charge, any foreign representative fees and any official fees. Official fees may include:
- Patent renewal and trademark or design renewal fees
- European patent validation and national filing fees
- Claims, search and examination fees
- Publication and assignment recordal fees
For Swiss clients, VAT applies to our own service charges. Foreign representative fees are subject to acquisition tax at the same rate of 8.1%. Following clarification with the Swiss VAT authority, we do not charge VAT on official fees.
Clients based outside Switzerland, including Austria and Germany, are invoiced without Swiss VAT. Any tax obligations in the client's country remain unaffected.
